SC GD Syllabus 2026: Latest Exam Pattern, Subject Wise Topics & PET/PST Details

SSC GD Syllabus 2026 covers four sections in the CBT (Reasoning, General Knowledge & Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and English/Hindi), followed by PET/PST, medical examination and document verification for final selection. Understanding the section-wise syllabus, exam pattern and physical standards is essential to score well in the written test and clear the subsequent stages.

SSC GD 2026 overview

The Staff Selection Commission conducts the SSC Constable (GD) Exam 2026 for recruitment in CAPFs, SSF and as Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles, with around 25,487 vacancies notified for this cycle. Applications are accepted online at ssc.gov.in, and the CBT is tentatively scheduled between February and April 2026, followed by PET/PST and medical tests.

Selection stages

SSC GD 2026 selection involves four main stages:

  • Computer-Based Examination (CBE)
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
  • Physical Standard Test (PST)
  • Detailed Medical Examination (DME) and document verification

Only candidates who qualify the CBT, meet PET/PST norms and are found medically fit are considered for final merit preparation.

CBT exam pattern and marking scheme

The SSC GD CBT is an online, objective test with the following structure:

  • Total questions: 80
  • Total marks: 160
  • Sections (20 questions, 40 marks each):
    • General Intelligence & Reasoning
    • General Knowledge & General Awareness
    • Elementary Mathematics
    • English/Hindi
  • Duration: 60 minutes (1 hour)

Marking scheme:

  • Each correct answer: +2 marks
  • Negative marking: –0.25 marks for each wrong answer (as per most recent pattern; always reconfirm from notification/SSC website)
  • Unattempted questions: 0 marks

The exam is set at Matriculation (10th) level and is available in English, Hindi and multiple regional languages (for the GK, Reasoning and Maths sections).

PET pattern

The PET is qualifying in nature and designed to test endurance:

  • For all candidates except Ladakh:
    • Male: 5 km run in 24 minutes
    • Female: 1.6 km run in 8.5 minutes
  • For Ladakh candidates:
    • Male: 1.6 km run in 7 minutes
    • Female: 800 m run in 5 minutes

PST standards (height and chest)

Height standards vary by gender and category:

  • General/OBC/others:
    • Male: 170 cm
    • Female: 157 cm
  • ST (plain areas):
    • Male: 162.5 cm
    • Female: 150 cm
  • Certain hilly/NE categories (e.g., Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Dogras, Marathas, NE states, Gorkhas, Ladakh, etc.) receive relaxations in height as per official tables.

Chest (for males only):

  • General/OBC:
    • Unexpanded: around 80 cm
    • Minimum expansion: 5 cm
  • ST and specified hill/NE categories get proportionately relaxed unexpanded measurements, with expansion of 5 cm still mandatory.

Exact figures must always be checked in the current SSC GD notification, as relaxations are listed region- and category-wise.

Minimum qualifying marks in CBT

Category-wise minimum qualifying marks in the CBT generally follow:

  • UR: 30%
  • OBC/EWS: 25%
  • All other reserved categories (SC, ST, etc.): 20%

These are qualifying thresholds; actual cut-offs are higher and depend on vacancies, difficulty level and normalised scores.
